Actually, Gary, I am very happy with all the responses I got. I have learned quite a few things. For one, I knew there was another way to define parameters, I just wasn't sure what it was. Some of the comments were very good, although I feel they wouldn't apply in this particular case (because of the nature of the file being so small and only a temporary transfer file) but I am quite sure I will use them in the future. Again, I thank everyone who responded, and I am keeping this thread in my mail to reference it. I wound up changing the program a little bit more (having it call a display file as the primary file instead of the file to be chanced, which means it won't be accepting any parameters anyway) but this brings up another question. I am used to writing display files, and then just setting them as the primary file and forgetting about them. Since using the cycle is a "bad" thing, what is the good thing to do here? I know in CL I use the write then read keyword (just can't remember off the top of my head what it is). How would I do that in RPGIV/LE? I seem to recall something about an EXFMT command (Execute format). I think my main problem is that I learn by looking at other's code, its the way I have always learned. I think it's time I hit a book on this, but since we don't have any paper books, I guess Ill just try to find out where IBM hid them. Anyone have any suggestions and/or URLs to go to learn the "new" way of doing things?
