Hi My crap idea... Has anyone with an AS/400 on the net considered hosting something akin to the slashdot site? I've followed this site for a while, it has become something of a 'net cultural phenomenon. I imagine we are a much smaller community than the mostly Linux audience, but could still benefit from something like this. I would rather have something faster, more much interactive than HTML and industrial-strength-boring - could it be a 5250 applet? This is a project I plan to do myself when I get access to a development AS/400 and a decent UK ISP (and when the machine is affordable!). It's important that the site code is open, GPL'd. Sponsorship from any of the '400 establishment will only hasten our doom, in my opinion. It's difficult to advertise in a 5250 screen I suppose (but certainly possible ;) ) I'm not enjoying large digest messages, especially when posters include the WHOLE of a lengthy previous message to add a few comments. Let's up the bandwidth, what do you reckon?
