     I have experienced standards manuals that are 1 page long, and manuals
     that are 500+ pages.
     The best ones are usually 10 to 15 pages, and when
     skeletons/prototypes exist it makes it much easier to be productive
     quickly.  As someone suggested already, when I go to a client that
     doesn't have standards, I try to introduce the set I've developed over
     the years.  Usually they are happy to accept them!

     p.s.  The company with the 500+ page standards manual DID NOT have
     skeleton programs!!!!  Go figure!
