If you're on V4R4 and %CHAR does not work converting numeric to character, then send IBM a note and get them to issue a PTF. The only other thing that might be happening is that your TGTRLS option is set to a release prior to V4R4. Is it?Bob Cozzi

Bob,
I sent a "more info" and a thanks to the responses to my question to the group...I'm on V4R4, which is the real reason for my question.  The group suggested %editc, it works fine, but I thought the %char should've worked??

Anyway, thanks.

I don't know if you got an answer on your %char problem, but until V4R4 IBM didn't allow it to be used with numeric data. They only allowed it to be used with date fields. A crap design if I do say so myself. I think I shamed them into support decimal values. Anyway, they don't PTF things back so until you go to V4R4 it is pretty useless.
