>Check the midrange magazine ads. There was a company that would allow >you to call, from an RPG program, their program. Last time I looked at it was >early 1993. >The problem with a generic function provided by IBM is that 1) Lotus would >be preferred over Excel, 2) Version support. I get enough returned emails, >"Can you save that to an earlier version of Excel?" Ok, My last post on the subject. With great risk that I will be again misconstrued. You programmer types are so Logical(xSTJ types). I used the example of %GETCELL as an example (Only) of different "Types" of built-in functions we should be asking for. My main point was for greater affinity to Stream Files and the IFS. A very small percentage of the programming public know how to use API's or know what a C #include means, or how to code a service program for that matter. (I know what you're thinking "Its not so tough, I did it, Let them eat cake") . With the other threads on IBM documentation, I not that hopeful of IBM providing a catalog of examples (In RPGIV) on how to use/find/decipher API's and their use within RPG. I'm probably wrong but I thought that if the language provided some mechinisms for using Stream files( .NSF, .CSV. , .XLS, etc type files ) Natively in the language. "The average" programmer just might be able to use them. The IFS is getting bigger and more commonly used everyday.
