Nelson C. Smith@ncsmith >Is it possible to use SQL with IFS files? No, Think about it. SQL is based on(part of the basis of) relational theory. A Data Base is a two dimensional array. Fixed Columns, Fixed Column meanings, etc, etc, DB2/400. The IFS is a PC/Unix/Stream file paradigm. No Columns, No Records as we know them. Just a long string of bytes delineated by special characters(Carriage Returns, etc.) You read the "File" Byte by Byte and say, "End of Record yet?" Nope, Keep Going. Not really something SQL is toooo good at.
