If this is the case, Rajeev, that you've got 80 blank spaces at
the end of each record, then you are correct in assuming that you'll
need to use 80 in your calculations.

Again, I'm not all at clear on what you're doing or why, so I'll
refrain from further comment.  Rest assured, however, that the method
that I've given you will (very cleanly, I expect) match the way
2 dimensional arrays work in other languages, such as C.
