     Are you replying to a different message than the one you quoted
to me below?  Because this message had nothing whatsoever to do with
host names, and I'm a little confused :)

Of course, if you're replying to the OTHER thread where someone had
asked how to use the gethostid() socket API, then I don't think you
understood the question.   He was trying to get a 32-bit integer
representing an IP address from a host name.

Please clarify what you meant :)
