Ok I have now got the function to find and return the pointer and I have the pointer associated with the data structure. However the data in the structure is not nicely formatted. I added the null bytes to the end of the service name and protocol name. That fixed the lookup. I based the data structure on a pointer name and eval pservent = getservbyname(%addr(s_name):%addr(s_proto). D servent DS Based(pservent) D s_name 32a D s_aliases 128a D s_port 5u 0 D s_proto 32a The DS seems to have the port number starting in byte 34 followed by the s_name, garbage, protocol, more garbage, the aliases. The strings are null terminated and space filled making each one extra byte. I am making progress but if someone has the code snippet??? I will appreciate any help.
