 No, you can't do it in RPG II either.  You may be confusing this w/ the
compiler allowing multiple defined fields (which used to be a terminal
error, but was changed [foolishly, IMHO] in SSP V4 to be only a warning.)

 That would probably be the primary purpose I would use it for.
