The simplest way is to use RPG IV so you can take advantage of the
Prefix() keyword on an externally described data structure.

First, name a DS and externally describe it to match your record
format.  Second, name another DS externally described the same way,
but add Prefix( Old_ ) or whatever.

Prior to the second chain, move the first DS to the second DS, which
will populate all the Old_* fields with the original data.  You can
then use these to compare with the regular field names after reading
another record.
