Brian, >Does anyone know if it is possible to move an entire record format to a >holding field, or DS so that I can move my file pointer (another chain) >but still access the old data? The simplest way is to use RPG IV so you can take advantage of the Prefix() keyword on an externally described data structure. First, name a DS and externally describe it to match your record format. Second, name another DS externally described the same way, but add Prefix( Old_ ) or whatever. Prior to the second chain, move the first DS to the second DS, which will populate all the Old_* fields with the original data. You can then use these to compare with the regular field names after reading another record.
