If it is GUI you are looking for, then you might want to consider Magic
Software's products.  Their DB2/400 gateway is very impressive in terms of
performance and the 4GL itself is quite robust.  You can even run Magic
programs native on the AS400.  I have used VB quite a bit and only looked
briefly at the two visual RPG products, and none of these seem as productive as
Magic to me.

The language itself, I think is very easy to learn and lives up, for the most
part, to their claim as a rapid application development tool.  Particularly if
you are familiar with the RPG fixed logic cycle.

No, I don't work for them <grin>, but am seriously considering buying some of
their stock.
