Just an quick info update - It's very easy to send packed fields using FTP whether it's an interactive or batch process.  Once you are signed on the FTP session, execute the  'Binary' subcommand prior to the Put or Get subcommand.  That is also required to transfer savefiles which I use to send a group of files or the source for programs.  One thing you should remember, the files you send must be defined on the receiving system first, or you will end up with only one field file.

A really good reference if you want to get the entire story on FTP is an article I found while searching my Midrange CD with a very similar question!  Read the article 'FTP Made Easy' by Richard Shaler & Fred Gamache in the December 1995 article of MidRange. You might think that it's an old article, but it is really 'to the point' and valid . . . and remember, those guys get to a lot of the new stuff and figure out how it works years before the rest of us start seeing it in the trenches and finally get a chance to use it. - cb

RPG IV supports sockets calls, so that's one way to talk to a Unix system.
FTP works great for moving files back and forth as long as you don't have
packed fields.
