James, you're brave.  Seems like this respondent aroused a bit of ire by
suggesting that EXSR also falls into this category a while back.  

You can write bad code with any set of tools.  Some of the branching opcodes
can help you write elegant easy to read programs though.  On the other hand,
who hasn't seen something like this:

dow NOT *in03
   exfmt screen
   if *in03
     leave
   endif
* do other stuff   
enddo

And if one is willing to admit that SELECT/ LEAVE/ ENDSR/DOx/IF are just
elaborated GOTO's, GOTO or CABxx are no more than members of many branching
instructions to be used/abused by choice of style.
