I'm not sure what you mean by "how it calculates", but assuming it has
to do with how those min/max points are determined then the range covered
for normalized numbers is determined as:

4 Bytes: 2**-126  <= M <= (2-2**-23)(2**127)

8 Bytes: 2**-1022 <= M <= (2-2**-52)(2**1023)
