  • Subject: SQL RPG Access Path Utilization - HELP ??
  • From: Mark Ramsden <markeramsden@xxxxxxxxx>
  • Date: Fri, 26 Mar 1999 06:52:18 -0800 (PST)

I have recently being developing some RPG programs in my own development
library. As part of the development I have had to create some new
logical files over existing physicals.
I decided to add a field to the logical key hence the file needed
recompiling.
When I attempted to delete the logical I was surprised to find that it
was locked by another job.
When I looked into this (WRKOBJLCK) the file was locked by a job running
in the ‘live’ production environment. How can this be ?
My logical has a unique name and exists only in my personal development
library.
Is it possible that an SQL RPG program first looks for an appropriate
access path anywhere in the system regardless of the jobs library list
and if it finds one (in this case mine) uses it ?
If this is the case and a production job has picked up my logical then
will the production job reference the physical file that my logical view
is pointing at ?

All comments will be greatly appreciated !

Regards in anticipation, Mark E. Ramsden (Leeds,UK)
