Performance tools used to have a function in it called SAM (Sampled
Address Monitor) that you could run over a defined set of programs. It
would collect performance data, then you could print this data off and
get performance statistics at a program level, and it would highlight
particular statements that were the most heavily used in the program. I
often used it to address performance issues at a program level.
That was a couple of years ago now, so I don't know if its still around,
or if something else has superceded it.

Subject: Job Performance

I have an interactive process (a group of programs, bound and otherwise)
that is not performing as well as I would like. I would like to know
when
certain key events are occurring, such as the points in time that
various
programs are called, when files get opened, etc. If I can establish
such
timings, it will allow me to identify the long-running processes, and I
will know where to focus my performance-enhancement efforts.

I know I could insert a process to log timestamps to a file at various
points in the programs, but I'm hoping for something a little less
invasive. TRCJOB to an outfile probably has the information I'm looking
for, but it has so much more that I can't make sense of it with the
naked
eye. Any suggestions?
