David, as others have suggested the simple answer is to return a 2+ char
variable from the RPG and only use the first character.  Why CL chose to go with
the way that C did things rather that the RPG method - or why they don't offer
compiler options is beyond me.  Perhaps a mailing campaign is called for!!

RPG is planning to document these things but a fix from CL and/or RPG  would be
much better.  Hell is much more likely to freeze over than Rochester is to fix
CL so ...... it's down to those nice folks in Toronto ...... Hans are you
