Boy, you folks sure like doing too much work to get a job done! ;-) You may want to take a look at the RTNDTA keyword. Here's how we do it: 1) enter your read PF loop writing records to your subfile. Use the PF key fields as hidden fields. 2) READ/READC/CHAIN or whatever to your subfile 3) CHAIN the PF 4) CHAIN the subfile 5) UPDAT the PF In step 4, you chain the subfile with the subfile record number and RTNDTA will not -really- do a chain, but repopulates the variables from the WORKSTN buffer (no actual I/O operation) Very little overhead, no data structures, no moves, no hassle. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This is the RPG/400 Discussion Mailing List!
