Problems with Reference variables in DDS

For some time I have been passing reference values for DDS commands for the
position to parameters so that the RPG program can position data on a page.
However, now I would like to control the fonts the same way. Any ideas as
to why the syntex won't all the printer file to compile? (Note: I am using
DEVTYPE(*APDS) at compile time.)

The field LPDESC works fine. I want to convert it to the LXDESC line.
However, LXDESC gives the following error:
