SPACE and SKIP are both related to starting a
new page. SPACE causes the program to advance
by a specific number of lines, while SKIP
causes the program to advance to a specific
line. The printer file is defined to have
a certain page size and overflow line. When
you space beyond the page size you will
obviously be on a new page. When you skip
to a line that is smaller than the one you are
currently on, you will also start a new page.

One typical application type is file
maintenance. Look at a display like
WRKMBRPDM. You get a list of existing entries
that you can take an option against to update
or delete and you can press F6 to add a new
entry. The same concept applies to, say,
customers in a customer file. You need a
way to look at existing records, change and
delete them and a way to add new records.
Along the way, you'll need some sort of reports
to show customers added since a certain date
(to mail a "Hello customer!" welcome packet),
customers deleted since a certain date ("Please
reconsider!"), etc. If you're stuck for ideas
and your instructor isn't helpful, go visit
the school's MIS people and see if they can't
give you some ideas.
