RPGIV Developers, Can anyone tell me why %subst is not treated consistantly? %subst only works with contiguous storage and it seems should be allowed anywhere that the first argument could be used. For example, the following works: EVAL %subst(fld: 1: 1) = 'A' Why can't I use %subst(fld: 1: 1) for a parm that is passed by reference? Isn't that functionally equivalent? It seems like this could work. I am asking because if I pass a *varsize field by reference I cannot get the length unless I pass the length as a separate parameter. Just wondering David Morris * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This is the RPG/400 Discussion Mailing List!
