My apologies, everyone... I guess I just figured it out myself...
Just because my fields are NULL-capable I have to use one more 5-byte
binary variable in FETCH to indicate whether the NULL value was in the
appropriate field. Sorry about that... I hope this helped someone who
might someday have the same problem :-).
