In a message dated 97-05-21 22:35:40 EDT, you write: > I need to move a data structure into a record format ... I want to do > this without hardcoding any record lengths or start & end positions. > > Originally I thought I could do a simple move from the data structure to > the record format name... but ILE RPG won't allow this. > > C move NwRecord USR20 > > Can someone uncramp my brain on this? :) > When I need to do this I create two data structures, both with an E in pos 22 (external) and both with the EXTNAME keyword, both pointing to the same file. Then I add the PREFIX keyword to one of them. That way I can work with one of them in the program, MOVE and WRITE when I want to. This can be used for before and after comparisons and writing log files.
