Can I assume that you've already swapped USB cables?

I solder on things for fun, and have repaired multiple motherboards with this class of failure. The problem is that the USB-C connector on the E15 is a surface mount part - it has very little structural resistance to being flexed; the tiny surface mount pads are not very strong at all. They use these because it helps to keep the laptop slim in profile.

I would not use the E15 as the laptop to learn how to repair this.

1) I've thought about wedging something underneath the cable, etc to
stabilize it.

That's a very temporary fix. Wedging something adds stresses to the port which will inevitably make the intermittent connections moreso as they open up.
