In the realm of esoteric facts, there was a SETI application that ran on AS/400s - written by Larry Loen, I believe, who was at IBM for a long time and was part of the System/38 team. One really smart fellow, and a really good guy, he helped me out on some stuff I did when contracting at IBM in 2011.

Anyone remember the SETI@home project?  This was a project that would let home computer users download software that would do data analysis of space signals to try to identify patterns and, maybe, intelligent life.

While SETI@home has been shut down ... there's a new project, sponsored by IBM, that that aims to help researchers with scientific research by sharing spare computing power.

One of the sub-projects is to help researchers at the Scripps Research center do molecular modeling simulations.

I'm participating in this and have created a team.
