Some people prefer to read the whole page that they're currently on
before following other links: That is precisely why they have those
other links open in new tabs rather than taking over the current tab.
That being said, what seems intuitively obvious to me is that there
ought to be a setting to let the user choose whether the focus changes
to the new tab or stays with the current tab.
