If the SSD is a Samsung you should be able to use their Magician software
to image to another drive. Other SSD manufacturers may also offer tools.
They're meant for those who are upgrading from platter to SSD but usually
can go the other way as well as long as at least one drive is from the tool
provider.

Also when doing that upgrade, make sure to completely remove any VPN
packages like Cisco, Watchgard, Checkpoint, etc. and then reinstall them.

Win10 chokes on those and will not install properly issuing Al Barsa's
MAKEAMESS command.......

Experience talking.......

Windows 7 has image backup built in. I've used it many times. Make sure
you have a repair disk as well. If you need to restore the image you've
got
to boot from the repair disk.

I'm going to make an image backup of my Win7 PC before I upgrade to
Win10.
I've been pruning files, about 60GB worth. Normally, I'd wipe deleted
file space with blanks so that the image backup could compress that
space easily, but this is the first time I've done an image backup of
an SSD drive. So, I am wondering whether anyone can recommend a free
image backup that ignores unallocated disk space. I am backing up to
DVD.
