The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
You can load open office (free) and have 99.99 of the functionality you'll
need. The new flash, etc, won't run, and you can't download latest java
either, so depends on what you want to do with it.
Also depends on the model and h/w config...you may be able to run win-7 and
get it to run 1/2 decently...
Can relate to tight money....kid just started college and no iseries work in
the area....seriousely considering becoming a truck driver... :)

Subject: [PCTECH] Thinkpad RSeries
Work is retiring some laptops and asked me if I wanted one. It was a
Thinkpad RSeries. They've been initialized and loaded with Windows XP. No
office or whatnot. I realize that no patches for that OS will be
forthcoming.
I am thinking of an extra home computer for maybe the wife and kids. The
two in high school have school laptops. The 8th grader has no laptop.
She's still going to the private school until this year is done.
What would you do?
Money is really tight here to the point it just has to be free.
Download some open office stuff? If so, what kind?
Add a virus package? What kind?
Trash it all and convert to Linux? I know nothing and will that blow the
wife and kids' minds? They're all using Windows now.
