I was able to find some VBS code that converted .XLS to .XML

the resulting XML is microsoft excel XML format.

<code>
Dim objXLApp, objXLWb, objXLWs
Set objXLApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")

'objXLApp.Visible = True true would open the excel program
Set objXLWb = objXLApp.Workbooks.Open("c:\temp\xls\YOUREXCELFILE.xls")
objXLWb.SaveAs "c:\temp\xls\YOURXMLFILE.xml", 46
objXLWb.Close (False)

set objXLApp = Nothing
set objXLWb = Nothing
set objXLWs = Nothing
</code>
