Your problem is at the very end of your first sentence.

Get an upgrade. Windows 7 performs better on virtually all hardware. XP is
10 years old, and has been patched to the point of sclerosis. Heck, you
are THREE major releases behind. Microsoft is stopping ALL support and
patching for XP in April 2014. A/V and other software vendors are following
suit. Remaining on Windows XP now is just poor internet citizenship. It is
the internet equivalent of driving 50 in the fast lane ... inconsiderate
and dangerous to those around you.
