Hi Jeff,

I VPN in to various customers and use the server name with no problems.

It sounds like a DNS problem. If you look at the details of the active VPN connection, what do you see for the DNS server? Or do you have some incorrect entries in your local hosts file?

If you're on a Windows PC, try "ping -a x.x.x.x" at a command line. The -a switch tells it to do a reverse DNS lookup, giving you the name of the server at that IP address. Try using that in RDP.

All,

Ignorance question. When I use our VPN to "get to the office" from my home
or elsewhere, why do I have to use IP address (192.168.0.xxx) for RDP
instead of being able to use the server name?

Over the years we've been through 3 different VPNs and this has been true
of all of them. I have always thought that once I VPN'ed in, I was on the
LAN. Yet for RDP I always need to use IP address or it can't find the
server I want. Is it because the PC I am using remotely is not on the
office domain?

Thanks.
