Heh. I got to thinking about it a bit. The network location I'm backing
up all the workstations to is on a server that is backed up to tape every
night, several hours after the workstation backups complete. Each
workstation therefore has 5 backups on the server. That server backup is
on a 2-week tape rotation.

That means each workstation has 5 backup copies on each of 10 tapes. Fifty
total. <slaps forehead> Why do I need that? I could just do the same
sync up backup every night to that server. Only 1 copy on the server means
I would still have 10 copies on tape. Will take longer if/when I need to
restore a file, but I haven't needed to yet.

The one thing that I got to thinking about was your requirement to have
multiple copies of the backup. You could set up multiple jobs going to
multiple folders with each running on a different day. If you're just
doing a sync (as opposed to a full copy) it takes a lot less time. It
would be interesting to see how that works with multiple copies of the
backup. Have fun.

Just installed a Win 7 Pro desktop (first Win 7 desktop, though we have
several Win 7 laptops)

I don't like the backup that comes with Win 7. What freeware backup

some of you using? I want to back up 1) to a file server on the
network,
2) on a set schedule at night, 3) keeping X number of copies and then
overwriting.
