I used Linux for my host OS with VMs in VirtualBox for Windows XP, 7, 8,
Server 2008, 3.1 (for fun!), and a couple of others. I've been using it
for years and it's yet to let me down as far as compatibility.
I use most of those for dev environments, FWIW.
