Yes, churches and religious organizations are classified under section
503(c)(3) organizations by the IRS.

Just an FYI, there are some churches and religious organizations that prefer to avoid the unnecessary entanglements and restrictions required by 501c3 status (or presumably 503c3) and are nonetheless non-profit.

They are lamentably a small percentage and require specialized knowledge these days but they are numerically many, and some businesses will work with them.
