I've been running into a boat load of problems trying to get various version of RDI installed on my new Windows 7 x64 system.

After I install the applications they appear to work fine ... but after I update them, I end up getting an error where eclipse.exe complains it can't find the jre.

"A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available to run Eclipse. No java virtual machine was found after searching the following locations: ...".

After uninstalling & reinstalling MANY (many many many) times I finally figured out that SOMETIMES I can launch the program with "Run as Administrator".

A bit more digging and I found a number of instances of the following error in the windows Application event log...

Log Name: Application
Source: SideBySide
Date: 8/12/2010 9:36:44 AM
Event ID: 63
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: DGIBBSW7.mks.com
Description:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files
(x86)\IBM\RDP76\jdk\jre\bin\unpack200.exe".Error in manifest or
policy file "C:\Program Files
(x86)\IBM\RDP76\jdk\jre\bin\unpack200.exe" on line 6. The value
"6.0.0.6u9b39" of attribute "version" in element "assemblyIdentity"
is invalid.

I also tried to install RDI 7.5 in a XP mode VM and got a similar error after the Installation Manager updated itself.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

david
