If you mean MIMO: Some models can enable MIMO on the receiving side
even if the AP is SISO. It doesn't help much, since the receiver still
only has a single antenna.

If you mean 2.4Ghz/5Ghz 802.11n or 802.11g vs 802.11a: This only helps
of the AP has both.
