I've seen similar things with IE 8 also and avoid it whenever possible

Not sure the issues are the same, I've encountered some issues with IE8,
especially working with multiple windows and tabs:
1. click a link on some emails or sites can end up with multiple tabs
opening on different IE8 windows.
2. right click on a link to open in a new tab, a tab opens but hangs
saying
"connecting ..." but never connects.
3. click a link and if Skype is active, a new IE8 window will open but
often
hang saying "connecting ... but never connects.
I make a point of manually deleting all the contents of the temporary
internet files and Temp directory, regularly.
This will sometimes resolve some of the problems associated with pages
that
don't load or don't load properly.
