I don't understand why some people insist on using software to upload
their photos.

I simply put the card (SD for both my Nikons, MSPro for pictures taken
with my Sony DV camcorder) in my card reader. Done.

Sure, you don't always *need* software but once installed it provides
services that the average user wouldn't otherwise have or know about. If
you want to talk easy, my wife's Kodak camera you just place in the dock,
press a button, the software wakes up, prompts for an album (folder) name,
and transfers the pictures. I would consider that tons easier than
opening the camera, removing the card, placing it in a card reader,
opening window or two, navigating to a folder, creating a new folder
inside that folder, dragging, and dropping the image files, detatching the
card reader, removing the card, and putting it back in the camera. In my
wife's case it starts recharging the camera batteries as soon as it goes
into the dock.

Having said that, I will add that from time to time I will move uploaded
pictures to new folders if I want to logically group pictures that may
have been uploaded at the same time but are from different events
(birthday party, camping trip, etc.). I do own a couple of card
readers--one for home and one for my laptop bag. They are for times when
I want to tranfer pictures to PC's that don't have the software.

Each method has its place.
