Lukas,
Thanks for responding.
I found that tech note, have that VB script ready to install for when the
consultant is back in town. (He's doing a 3-day install in Indy the rest of
the week.) But I don't think it solves the issue, as the last paragraph of
the tech note states - I think.
I didn't think that would handle my issue, though. Here's how I came to
that conclusion:
- The numlock key initial state wasn't an issue until the domain was
installed. So it must have something to do with the domain install.
- I had always thought (probably erroneously) that AD settings were stored
somewhere on the DC in a 'registry-like' object. This is what I was looking
for. Like I said, I had found the VB script, but thought there was another
way.
- My PC is normally on 24x7, with me logged on and the keyboard locked. The
consultant told me that when a user logs off, that's when stuff is pushed to
the domain, so I should make it a habit to log off on some kind if regular
schedule. Made sense to me.
- What I found out is that when I (or anyone) logs off the domain, the
numlock turns off. I confirmed it again this morning. 1) Numlock is on,
2) I log off the domain, and 3) numlock is off. I'm now at the Press
Ctl-Alt-Del to sign on screen. This script won't run until sign on, so it
won't help. Or am I not understanding when it runs? Does pressing
Ctl-Alt-Del cause it to run?
I wasn't so much interested in you solving this for me, I wanted to figure
it out for myself. I was just pointing out this annoyance.
It's the kind of thing that really honks off users and they think that stuff
should be priority 1. It's not by a long shot. I think it's more important
to get in place an orderly shutdown for these servers in case of a power
outage and the UPS batteries run down, don't you agree? <g>

One annoyance so far that has happened at 5 or more PCs as reported to
me.
When you log off the domain, Num Lock goes off. I have confirmed this
happens at my PC. Is there a domain wide setting that's causing this?
It
just started this week and since every password has a digit in it, it's a
pain..
The digit keys are right above the letters... :P
But honestly - resolving this problem is simple - there's soo much
information out there.
