"You didn't explicitly say, but I'm guessing the recovery partition was
Vista."
Nope - I was 'assured' that it is XP, (confirmed too since that is the
only OS that is/was loaded when I first booted the machine). And if I
hadn't called and ordered Vista recovery media I wouldn't have had any
upgrade path to Vista even though I was sold a license for Vista.
I've heard that Dell & HP do ship recovery media on CD/DVD's. You'd think
that as cheap as it is to burn a CD that including them with the delivery
would be a no brainer and one way to avoid customer headaches should they
need to do a reinstall or desire a change of OS.
I don't care how M$ chooses to count their licenses, I just wish they'd be
honest about it. With all the bad press they get they should look for ways
to eliminate the things that leave a bad taste in the mouths of their
customers.
