The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

From a technology standpoint, the software will still work after you
leave school. Microsoft has no real way to track your student status.
You are agreeing, though, to only use it as long as you are a student or
faculty.
It's up to the purchaser to be ethical enough to stop using the software
once they're no longer within the license terms.
This is similar to the Home Use program that has gotten me Office
Enterprise for $19.95 courtesy of an agreement between my employer & MS.
I can use it as long as I'm with my employer.
I doubt MS cares that much, though, as it still counts as a sold seat
and if you've bought you'll be tempted to buy upgrades and whatnot.
Also, that you bought Office for cheap means you didn't go the
OpenOffice or other non-MS way. IOW not only are you using the MS
product, you are not using a competitor's product.
And in this particular case, buying the software as a freshman should be
fine to get him through his academic career.
