Considering the relative computing power of computers these days ... it
seems to me that, aside from the redevelopment costs, it would make a
lot of sense for the major consumer application vendors to use a
multi-platform language (such as Java).
That way they could support PC's and Mac's with the SAME version of
their product (instead of one version lagging behind the other) ... and,
maybe without direct support, they could even run on Linux & BSD.
'course Linux on the desktop is still going to struggle without first
class device driver support from the vendors.
