Another method is to hold it in your hand and smack it down on a table
fairly hard. Might jar the mechanism loose if you are lucky.
Of course, both of the above could also toast the drive for good and

only be used as a last resort.
I've been thinking about these two methods as well, but am waffling since
these seem more appropriate for "stiction" problems, and not what is likely
an electrical problem. Can't hurt, I guess.
