(First, apologies to the list for the earlier subject FUBAR.) This might be the messy part -- a "new" activation could easily be handled different from attempting re-activation. Of course, it's possible that "re-activation" happens more often in emergency situations where you /had/ a working system and needed to replace a critical, significant component... such as... oh, I don't know... a MOTHERBOARD??? So, you're working along for months, a mobo gets cracked, you spend who knows how much time/effort getting things back, and you can't start the blasted thing back up! Sure, buy it all new and take your time. But when you need some quick response, -- "Sorry!" Am I getting the hang of it? And I see later comments that discuss CDs tied to manufacturers... those make some sense (having worked a couple years for one of those manufacturers). Tom Liotta
