Dan, It's all possible, but in my opinion not necessarily recommended. Windows XP does support Internet Connection Sharing using the network setup wizard. It pretty much turns your XP box into a router/DHCP server. It could cause all sorts of issues if your wireless router is already handing out addresses, and you would have to be very careful about addressing in any case. Regarding the cable, if you don't put a switch or router between the two laptops, you need a crossover Ethernet cable, which is a special pinout configuration. Others may disagree, but I would look at picking up a wireless card for the laptop, or a wireless bridge if your PC-Card slots are full. A lot less trouble, and more flexible in the long run. Say I'm in a room in my house with a laptop that has a wireless connection. Add to that another laptop that does not have wireless but has an ethernet adapter. Is there a way to run an ethernet cable between the two laptops so that the non-wireless laptop can get online? Special ethernet cable? Does WinXP detect this automagically, or is there any manual configuration that needs to happen? What if I also would like to copy files from one laptop to the other? Could I use this same connection?
