After about two months of trying to get my new Diamond MultimediaDVI video card to support the optimal resolution for a wide panel LCDscreen and getting nowhere fast, ATI tech support mentioned a program(albeit without a link, and without vendor sanctioning) called PowerStrip that seems to be quite powerful. I was able to create a"custom" resolution to fit the wide screen aspect ratio.
