His freak show was so popular (exotic animals, bearded lady, siamese
twins, etc), that no one would leave to make room for new paying
customers, so he put up a big sign, and posted a barker who would
announce, "Ladies and Gentlemen, this way to the Egress!"  Not knowing
the meaning of the word and thinking this was some sort of wonderous
exotic animal, the customers would eagerly queue up to exit the tent.
