Awesome find, Tom! I will be sure to try this on my PC at home. One of the biggest PITA's that shouldn't be; I've altered my Windows Update behavior so that it no longer installs updates automatically, which is Microsoft's preferred default. This is not the setting I'd normally use, but seeing that this is a PC that I only see on the weekends with wife and kids using it during the week, I wanted to ensure that security updates got installed in a timely matter. This tweak will help me set it back. Ooooh, I saw another setting that I used: "No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installations", which "specifies that to complete a scheduled installation, Automatic Updates will wait for the computer to be restarted by any user who is logged on, instead of causing the computer to restart automatically." Jeez, what a novel concept -- user control! Thanks for posting, Tom! - Dan On 6/30/06, qsrvbas@xxxxxxxxxxxx <qsrvbas@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Maybe this was posted before; but I sure missed it if it was. In case you ever get irritated with its obnoxious behavior, you can fix it (and more) easily: http://blog.adglobe.net/2006/06/29/take-off-the-windows-update-restart-prompt-message/ or http://makeashorterlink.com/?K18865A5D Tom Liotta
