LMHOSTS file

hey all,  (cross posted to midrange and pctech)

I'm trying to get access to the iseries netserver shares from my home
pc (via VPN), without iseries access.

I've found plenty of help on the web for doing this, but they all
suggest adding an entry to the LMHOSTS file on the pc:

ip.address  hostname  #PRE

fine and dandy, I found the LMHOSTS file and tried to edit it, but it
won't let me save it because it's in use.   what can I do to edit this
file?

fyi - fwiw, I'm trying to access the shares so I can install iseries
access on my home pc without having the CD, so if you have an
alternative method for doing that, I'd be grateful for that too.   I
DO have another PC with all access to iseries netserver shares.
